New PI housing

Posted on Sun 27 September 2026 in 2026

Some years back I bought a small 19" rack for network stuff at the home office. This included a special shelf that would fit three or four raspberry pi devices.

We moved a couple of years back and the rack collapsed to the floor in the new closet. It was rather beat up so I got rid of it. The Raspberry pi devices ended up running without any form casing. Fine but a bit fragile.

A couple of weeks back I found some casing that I liked. I wanted something sturdy and with options for storage and outputs. The casing came with expansion boards for NVME storage and a board providing full size HDMI ports.

It involved a bit more screws than anticipated, but it turned out quite well.

The cases were ordered from the Pi Hut. Not the greatest choice in retrospect. The shop is fine, but it is UK based that makes ordering stuff there more involved post Brexit.

At least I have a new EORI number now and paying import tax via DHL is rather painless (but expensive).

Next step is taking all the gear and move it a couple of shelves up. That will include doing some cable management :-)
